چکیده

results a significant decrease in apoptotic cells and increase in proliferative reaction were observed in the i/r + hbo group compared to the i/r group. conclusions we demonstrated that hbo suppressed apoptosis, which caused inflammation after renal i/r, and promoted tubular cell regeneration. hbo has protective effects against aki caused by renal i/r through the inhibition of apoptosis. materials and methods sprague-dawley (sd) rats were randomized into three groups: sham (sham-operated rats); i/r (animals submitted to i/r); and i/r + hbo (i/r rats exposed to hbo). tubular cell apoptosis was confirmed by dna laddering and the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated uridine triphosphate nick end labeling (tunel) assay. cellular proliferation activity was determined using the anti-ki-67 antibody. objectives we studied the possible beneficial effects of hbo therapy on apoptosis and tubular cell regeneration after renal i/r injury in rats. background renal ischemia/reperfusion (i/r) injury remains a major cause of acute kidney injury (aki), in addition to i/r injury-induced tissue inflammation, necrosis and apoptosis. hyperbaric oxygen therapy (hbo) is defined as a treatment in which a patient is intermittently exposed to 100% oxygen pressurized to a pressure above sea level (> 2.0 atmospheres absolute (ata), 1.0 ata = 760 mmhg). it has been used in a number of medical conditions with a proven efficacy in a limited number of disorders. however, the effects of hbo therapy on apoptosis and proliferative activity after i/r injury have not been fully understood.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Suppresses Apoptosis and Promotes Renal Tubular Regeneration After Renal Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Rats

BACKGROUND Renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury remains a major cause of acute kidney injury (AKI), in addition to I/R injury-induced tissue inflammation, necrosis and apoptosis. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) is defined as a treatment in which a patient is intermittently exposed to 100% oxygen pressurized to a pressure above sea level (> 2.0 atmospheres absolute (ATA), 1.0 ATA = 760 mmHg)....

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy reduces renal lactate production

Intrarenal hypoxia is an acknowledged factor contributing to the development of diabetic nephropathy. Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy is a well-known adjuvant treatment for several medical conditions, such as decompression sickness, infections, and wound healing. The underlying metabolic response of HBO is largely unknown. In this study, we investigated the effect of HBO on the intrarenal metab...

Berberine Ameliorates Renal Functional Disorders and Pulmonary Tissue Injury Following Renal Ischemia/Reperfusion in Rats

Introduction: This study investigated the effect of berberine on renal dysfunction and histological damages of the lung induced by renal ischemia/ reperfusion at an early stage. Methods: There were four experimental groups of adult male rats (n=7). Seven days before induction of ischemia, the Ber+I/R group received oral (by gavage) berberine (15 mg/kg/day) while the I/R group received distil...

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy aggravates liver reperfusion injury in rats.

PURPOSE To evaluate the effects of hyperbaric oxygen (HO) therapy in the protection against liver ischemia/reperfusion injury. METHODS Thirty-two male Wistar rats were divided into four groups of eight animals each: group A - laparotomy and liver manipulation, group B - liver ischemia and reperfusion, group C - HO pretreatment for 60 min followed by liver ischemia and reperfusion, and group D...

Involvement of the activin-follistatin system in tubular regeneration after renal ischemia in rats.

This study was conducted to investigate the involvement of the activin-follistatin system in renal regeneration after ischemic injury. Expression of mRNA for the activin beta(A) subunit was not detected in normal kidneys but increased markedly after renal ischemia. Immunoreactive beta(A) subunit was detected in tubular cells of the outer medulla in ischemic but not normal kidneys. Expression of...

Metformin attenuated the inflammation after renal ischemia/reperfusion and suppressed apoptosis of renal tubular epithelial cell in rats.

PURPOSE To investigate the effect of metformin on renal tubular epithelial cell apoptosis and inflammation after kidney ischemia/ reperfusion in rats. METHODS Eighteen SD rats were randomly divided into three groups: Sham (S), Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R), and Metformin (E). Before establishing the I/R model, group E was administered metformin for three days, while groups S and I/R were adminis...
